Background

Layla was born in a small village in the mountains, where she lived with her parents and siblings. Her father was a farmer and her mother was a seamstress. Layla was the youngest of her siblings and was always the most curious. She would often wander off into the woods, exploring the world around her.

When the war broke out, Layla's village was destroyed and her family was killed. She was able to survive by hiding in the woods, scavenging for food, and eventually being rescued by a group of other refugees. She was taken to Black Water, where she was given a new life.

Layla quickly adapted to her new surroundings, learning new languages and customs from all of the different cultures that migrated to The Slums. She found work at a local bar, where she was able to use her talents to bring in customers and make them feel welcome. She quickly became known as "The Voice" because of her melodic voice and her ability to talk to people.

It was Don Mangione himself who took notice of Layla and offered her a job at The Sky Bar. She accepted, seeing it as an opportunity to make more money, but soon realized that there was more to the job than just being a hostess. She began to regret her decision to work for the Don and tried to back out of the deal, but by then it was too late and she was in too deep

Relationship to other characters

Layla begins a relationship with Theresa, who she meets at The Sky Bar. Theresa was frequenting the bar when she saw a 'male customer' arguing with Layla, refusing to pay her for her services the night before. Theresa, seeing the scene before her, opted to intervene by pick-pocketing the man and giving the money to Layla.

Layla was taken aback by Theresa's actions at first, asking her what she expected Layla to do when he finds his money missing. Theresa simply replied that she'll 'hold onto it, until you come to collect.' The two began a relationship soon afterward, in secret.
